When I started my application process I was looking at the questions I had to answer and it was very difficult for me to think and write about my short and long term career goals. I guess that in my mind everything makes sense and I'm pretty sure I know where I'm going in life, but it took me weeks to realise, and put down in words, what I really see myself doing right after graduation and then 5 years after that.
For this reason I would recommend to think this through before answering, it's a good chance to realise what your dreams are and how the MBA will help you achieve them. I was happy to find out that my dreams made sense with what I'm doing and with what I'm planning to do, so in the end it was a good exercise to make.
I believe this is a very personal process and probably many of you have already thought about all these kind of stuff, but maybe it will help if I tell you what I think is relevant before writing down the answer.
1.- Think long term first then short term. What would I like to be doing 7 years from now? is a tough question, but you have to realise that the question allows you to dream, think big and think about what kind of activity would you like to be doing that will make you love your work, and therefore happy. After that, think what would you like to be doing 2 years from now, that will lead you to achieve your long term goal and that will also make you happy.
Finally you can think if the MBA will be a good tool to help you achieve both goals. If you are serious about applying for an MBA you will find out that everything makes sense and it will be easier to write your essay.
2.- Honesty. To show that your story makes sense and that the MBA fits perfectly in your career development is important to be honest. Be honest about your dreams and motivations, about your strength and weaknesses and you will have a strong application and a good base for the interview stage.
It is really important to set a career goal. Otherwise, we are facing failure in life. To build a career in a particular field, we should be unique and dedicated, stay motivated, and creative skills. So that, we can easily improve our career goals.
