I love the rail system in the UK

I think some of my previous posts can be considered rather negative because I have been complaining about airports and garbage for example. Maybe because today is sunny in Manchester I decided to share my nice experience with the rail system in the UK.

I have been travelling a lot by train since I arrived to the UK last August, specially during the last 3 weeks, and I can say that it works perfectly. Whenever I need to travel I go on-line and select the tickets I want to buy, the earliest you do it the cheaper the tickets you can find. I think is very useful to buy the off peak return ticket to London, because it allows me to take any train at any time thanks to my student rail card. After I pay for my ticket I receive a confirmation email with a reference number that I use to retrieve my tickets from the self service machine at the station.

Trains have one coach with no reserved seats for people with open tickets, so if you get to the train 10 minutes before departure you can select the seat you want. One piece of advice, don't be late!!! the train will leave on time and will get to destination on time (I have never had any timing problems).

The trains are nice and clean, they have electricity sockets, free Wifi connection (at least during March 2011), functional toilets and a snack bar. So spring break is approaching and I'm ready for some more train travelling, this time to York and the Lake district. Where are you travelling next?
